Winterizing Your Home to Prevent Damage

Winterizing Your Home to Prevent Damage

When the winter weather starts, you want to be sure your home is ready for it. There are a number of small things you can do now that will make a big difference in your windows in the months and years to come. Here are a few suggestions.

Windows

Be sure the home’s windows are airtight. That means ensuring they have a strong seal all the way around them. If you can feel cool air coming through the windows or around the edges, that means you need to have a professional out to look at them. New windows could help reduce energy costs throughout the year.

Doors

Do the same thing around your doors. If you can see light around the edges or under the door itself, that means cold air can get into the home. It is a good idea to have these sealed properly to avoid this.

Gutters

Be sure to have the gutters cleaned out before the winter weather sets in. it is a good idea to have a roof inspection at this time, too. When gutters are filled with fall’s leaves, it makes it very hard for water to flow properly away from the home, leading to a risk of foundation issues and ice formation.

Winterizing your home typically means ensuring the outside is sound. It may be best to work with a home restoration and repair company that can help to address any concerns present. If there are large projects that need to be done, now is the time to do so before the cold weather sets in.
